It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald Joseph Penney announce his passing on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, just shy of his 93^rd birthday. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his children:  Jerry (Linda), Bruce (Sharon), Brian (Janice), and Aune (Fred) Colbourne; grandchildren: David, Alicia, Stephen, Laura, Jonathan, Christopher, Allison, Adam, Jeffrey, Melanie, Carla, Amy and Vicki and their families; 20 great grandchildren; sister: Sylvia Sweetapple (Charlie May); sister-in-law Vera Locke, brother-in-law Jack Tracey, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 68 years, Mae, the love of his life, parents Elot and Alice Penney, parents-in-law Robert and Pearl Locke, brothers Reg (Dorothy), Lloyd (Rose), sisters Verna Gabriel (Ed) and Elaine Tracey, brother-in-law Edgar Sweetapple.

Gerald was a millwright with Bowaters and then Corner Brook Pulp and Paper for over 40 years. He was an avid salmon fisherman and moose hunter. Berry picking and rabbit catching also took up a great deal of his time. Over the course of 50 years he and Mae spent many weekends at their trailer at Sandy Lake where they enjoyed the company of family and friends, relaxed and played innumerable hands of cards.

Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue, on Saturday, June 18, from the hours 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.  The funeral service will take place on Sunday, June 19 at 3 pm from First United Church, Park Street, with Rev. John van Vliet officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the First United Church Restoration Fund.
