Dear Marg, Kenny, Sean and family
I was Saddened, shocked, and hard to believe to hear of Al’s passing. We are so sorry for your loss and our deepest sympathies and condolences during this difficult time. I knew Al back in 1976 when I started working for Ashland. Al and I worked on the same shift and I was trained by him as an Operator. Al was a friendly and caring man. We were more than work associates and he was my friend. It seemed that we grew up together at Ashland. I am glad that we kept contact after he retired, plus he made the effort to meet with me every time when he was visiting family or attending trading courses in Toronto. Last time that Al and I got together was back in 2019, and now sadly, we are not able to see each other again. Al and I worked closely in many things at Ashland until he retired in 2008. I am thankful that I had benefited from many of Al’s advises and valuable knowledge. He will be missed by many of us who worked together many years at Ashland. I’ll be posting some pictures of Al during his time at Ashland.

Marg, Ken, Sean and all my Spurvey family, my heart is there with all of you today as you celebrate the life of a great man, and learn to move forward without him. My words are not enough to convey just how sad I am for all of you. Phonse was a man who lived life to the fullest and who graced the lives of all who knew him with love, music and laughter. Margie, Kenny, Sean and family,
It is with deep sorrow that I learned about Al's passing and it is with much gratitude that I had the privilege of knowing him. When I first met Al and his family in Burlington, Ontario I felt that I had found a piece of home. He was so accepting, nonjudgemental, humorous, entertaining and an all-around nice guy and like the rest of us he loved a-bit-of-fun. We spent many good times together, but the occasions I enjoyed the most were the Halloween parties, which we all looked forward to and plotted a year in advance of what our costume would be next year. We loved listening to Al play and sing, sometimes we would sing along (or at least attempted to sing) have a jig, and end the night with a scoff. Al you will be missed and I thank you for sharing your gifts of music, humour, and your kindness. Please God, you will continue to play the accordian in heaven! Until we meet again, love and light.

I am deeply saddened at the news of Phonse’s sudden passing. We grew up a stone’s throw away from the Spurvey family and all our family members shared the experiences of our childhood years with members of their family. My brother Terry, in particular, and I shared literally hundreds (and maybe thousands) of memorable experiences with Phonse in our developing years in Fox Harbour. He was a fine fine fellow then and remained so for a lifetime as are all members of his family. My deepest condolences to all and may he Rest In Peace.
