Obituary of Stella Marie Young

Please share a memory of Stella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Stella Marie Young on July 14, 2022, at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre.  She spent her final moments with her husband Pius and passed away peacefully with her loving son Kevin, holding her hand.

Stella was born on January 22, 1934 in Jean-de-Baie, NL.  She shared many stories of how she grew up with her many siblings in a loving, close Catholic family.  Stella left her home at the age of 16 to teach school in outport communities, in one room schools on the West coast of Newfoundland.

At the age of 18, she was relocated to Sandy Point, NL to teach.  It was there that she met the love of her life, Pius.  They married in 1955 and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.  Stella was vey involved in the community of St. Georges where she and Pius raised their family and built their home together.  Stella enjoyed church, knitting for the Parish Fall Fair, dances, card games and bingo. She served as the President of the Bayview Senior Citizens Club.  Through this she met many life long friends who had the honour to know her fun loving side and her kindness to all.

Family meant every thing to mom. She was predeceased by her parents.  William and Mary O Keefe and her parents-in-law, Francis and Elizabeth Young.  Also predeceased, brothers Jerome and Patty; sisters Katie, Rita, Ginny, Mary, Helen.  Sisters-in-law Marjorie, Annie and brothers-in-law Ronnie and Sandy.

She leaves to mourn, her husband Pius, sons Kevin (Marilyn), Jerry (Anisa) and daughter Cindy (Chris) Benoit, sisters Philomena Hackett, Rose (Martin) Hannam, Lenora (Kevin) Harding and Dorothy Molloy.  Grandchildren Jamie, Tiffany, Ashley, Michael, Brianna, Cameron and Caitlin.  She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.  She also has many special nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own.

Mom, our hearts will heal eventually because we know that you are praying for us and watching over us.  You were our angel on earth and now you are in Gods loving arms.  Thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally,  to believe in the power of prayer, and to take care of each other.  Your warm smile, your kind heart, your life and all our wonderful memories together will live on through us forever.

The dignity and compassion shown to our mother from the staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre during her short stay and in her final hours will never be forgotten.  She loved you all and told you all at every opportunity.  You are our angels on earth.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

According to her wishes, Stella was cremated.

Stella absolutely loved flowers, so we welcome flowers, also, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Parish in St. George's.

Don’t think of her as gone away her journeys just begun life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years.  Think how she must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched for nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so very much.
