Obituary of Philomena Butt

PHILOMENA BUTT 1927-2009 Corner Brook, NL It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of the late Philomena Butt (nee McCarthy) announce her peaceful passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, November 14th, 2009 with her family at her side. She fulfilled the active role of both mother and father, with faith, love, courage and determination, since the tragic passing of her husband, Nelson in 1957. She leaves to mourn with loving and wonderful memories her children: Gary (Patsy), Paulette Tobin, Keiren (Hazel), with whom she resided, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren, the pride of her life, Annette Butt (Cory), Natasha Butt (Calvin), Nelson Tobin (Brandy), Fort McMurray, Alberta, Christopher Tobin, Tara Tobin, Kayla Tobin, Gerard Butt, Heather Sweetapple and Cassidy Strickland. Also left to mourn are her brothers Norbert McCarthy (Dale), Jack McCarthy (Elaine), of Wabush, sister, Eileen Campbell, brother-in-law: Kenneth Brinston (Pat) of Labrador City, Raymond Butt, Gordon Butt, sisters-in-law: Loretta McCarthy, Louise McCarthy, Marion Butt, as well as Helen Butt, whom she loved as a daughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Philomena was predeceased by: her husband, Nelson, infant daughter, Dora, son-in-law Paul Tobin, parents Mary and Frank McCarthy, sister, Patricia Brinston, brothers Anthony, Tom, Francis McCarthy, mother and father-in-law, Dora and John Butt, sisters-in-law Paula McCarthy, Joan Butt, Geraldine Butt, brothers-in-law, Neil Campbell, Bernard Butt, Harvey Butt, Edward Butt, and best friend, Marjorie Hann. Visitation will take from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 16th at 10:30 a.m. from The Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue, Father Ambrose Hynes officiating. Interment to follow at Townsite Cemetery, Montgomery Street. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
