1943 – 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick Wilfred Canning (Fred) on September 4, 2022, at the Labrador Health Center at the age of 78 years.
Born in Englee, NL on the Northern Peninsula on December 5, 1943, to Frederick Sr. and Alton Canning. Fred married Yvonne (nee Pollard) on October 25, 1961. In 1962, he moved to Happy Valley-Goose Bay with his new wife and infant child. He made Happy Valley-Goose Bay his home and worked most of his life as a carpenter. He always referred to Labrador as the “Big Land” and loved it here.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Yvonne of 60 years; children: Dean (Connie), Debbie, Derrick (Gertie), Denise (Terry); grandchildren: Katrina (Jamie), T.J., Brandon (Jessica), Richard (Denae), Malory, Desiree and Julia; step-grandchild, Karl; great-grandchildren: Hilary, Tristen, Madison, Savannah, Mckynlee, Jacob, Keegan, Avery, Abigail, Nora, Grayson, Olivia; step great-grandchildren: Kallie, Carter and Harper; siblings: Leslie, Jerry (Shirley), Ron (Violet), Max (Shirley), Ray (Donna), Marie (Milton), Ross (Yvonne), Rick (Robina), Gloria (Hubert), Larry (Jenny); sister-in-law Verna Canning, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his mother Alton Canning, father Frederick Canning Sr., and brother Frank Canning.
Special “Thank you” to Angie Lawrence, Dr. Rorke, Dr. Power, Dr. Bruce, and the nurses and staff at the Labrador Health Center.
In lieu of flowers, as expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the family.
As per the families wishes, cremation is set to take place. There will be a small service held for family and friends on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Salvation Army Church in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
