George came from a close-knit family. He worked from a young age, starting out as a fisherman and later as an oiler in the Coast Guard. When George met his first wife in 1974 he quit the Coast Guard to stay in Lourdes and start his family. In 1986 he moved to Ontario where he started working in a corrugated cardboard factory, which led into a 20+ year truck driving career.
George met his second wife Valerie in 1989 and acquired 3 beautiful children whom he loved and treated as his own. Valerie and George created a lifetime of memories and a family bond that will always be remembered and cherished by his 5 children.
George was a loving and dedicated husband, father, foster dad and "poppy" raising 5 children, working hard his entire life to retire in the place he loved and called "home". George enjoyed telling stories, making others laugh, chatting with anyone who would listen, and helping anyone in need. He loved the outdoors, and his greatest passions were hunting, fishing, being at the cabin, and walking in the woods any chance he could.
After his retirement, George battled a rare illness called "PSP". A testament to George's strong-willed nature, he accepted his illness and fought hard to the end. He was determined to keep as much independence and dignity as possible during his last few years, with the help of family and caregivers, until he finally succumbed to his disease.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to BSGLTCC for their care and compassion shown to George and his loved ones during his stay at the home.
