In Appreciation

The family of the late Irene Elizabeth Taylor would like to express a heartful thank-you to all those who gave of their time to visit the funeral home. To those who were so gracious and kind to send along condolences, flowers, and food at this most difficult time, be rest assured that you have touched the very heart of each and every one of our family. To the staff at Lohnes Complex, who went above and beyond in caring for our mom, thank you so much; words cannot begin to express our appreciation. To Dr. Kim Gunson, thank you for all your advice and efforts to keep our mother as comfortable as possible. Finally, to the staff at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, who through their professional manner, certainly are able to make a difficult time somewhat easier. Again, thank you all so very much.

Irene Elizabeth Taylor

December 11, 1929 – October 5, 2022

Corner Brook, NL

Our hearts are deeply saddened with the passing of our mother, Irene Elizabeth Taylor (nee Blake) at the age of 92 on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Mom was such a strong woman whose heart was filled with love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was small in stature but big in heart and larger than life. We are so blessed to have had this amazing woman in our lives for so many years.

She leaves to mourn with many loving memories her children:  Jerry (Bernice), Judy (Norman), Eileen (Donny), Terry (Cindy), Lenny (Marie), and Danica (Terry), her grandchildren: Jeffrey (Lisa), Annette (Scott), Jason (Jennifer), Tara ((Jason), Kristopher, Adam, Jessica, Krista, Ashley, Melanie and Lindsay (Matt), and her great-grandchildren: Cassidy, Ella and Alyssa, Rebecca and Vanessa, Sydney and Isabel, Jaelyn and Julia, Macy, Halle and Riley and her sisters Inez (Max), Marie (Everett) and Shirley (Albert) and daughter-in-law, Loretta Park.  She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Taylor, her son Robert Taylor, her parents, Rachael and Fraser Blake whom she always fondly referred to as ‘Mommy and Daddy Blake’, her sisters, Ruby, Daisy, Cavell, Janice and her brothers Angus and Glossen.

Irene was a mother of seven children and her love of children shone through in her roles as a Sunday School Teacher, she was a Brown Owl to many little Brownies and a CGIT leader. She loved berry picking, trout fishing and moose hunting.  This little lady carved, cleaned, cut and packaged more moose quarters for her family than we could ever count. She was always at the ready to put the kettle on for your visit and Nanny-Great was known to make the best tea ever! All visits to her place always ended off with, “I will watch you off from the living room window” and Mom, Nan and Nanny-great would be in the living room window waving us off.   Her humour, kindness and love of family will forever be treasured in our hearts.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gunson and the staff at Lohnes Complex for everything they did to make the last years of her life easier.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7 from the hours of 2-5 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. from Humber United Church, Clarence Street with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
