Joan Elizabeth McLean

May 1, 1947 – October 19, 2022

It is with great sadness and remorse that the family of Joan Elizabeth McLean announce her passing on October 19, 2022 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Halifax, NS, May 1, 1947, grew up and got her education before moving to Newfoundland.  Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She worked 20 years with Newfoundland Telephone Company in Stephenville Crossing, and she then finished her career at the College of the North Atlantic. Joan loved to spend time volunteering, gardening and relaxing with a good book.  She was a vibrant, fun-loving person who loved to play pranks and enjoy a good Hardy laugh.  Her greatest pleasures was spending time with her precious grand daughter Morgan.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Trudy McLean (Mike Blanchard), grand daughter Morgan Blanchard, step-grandson Cody Blanchard, step son Perry Bennett and a large circle of family and friends. 

She is pre-deceased by her parents Harold and Patience Swyer and her loving husband Arden McLean.

Her resilience and courage was front centre during her battle with cancer and was recognized by doctors and medical staff that treated her.  She always found a way to make a joke and have a laugh during this difficult time. Joan touched the hearts of everyone that knew her with love and laughter. 

Much appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for Joan.  You guys were awesome!

Special thank you to her home care worker, Michelle who was always there for her.

Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing, Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Funeral service on Sunday, October 23, 2022 @ 3:30 P.M. at the All Saints Anglican Church, Stephenville Crossing with Rev. Norman Cutler officiating.
