Humphrey Ford

Corner Brook, NL

May 10, 1940 – November 5, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our precious father of 82 years, Humphrey Ford – with his devoted family at his side - after a very courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer in his beloved hometown of Corner Brook.

Our dad will live on in our hearts as our true “Superman” and superhero – after all – he WAS built Ford Tough!  He was the very proud father of, in his words – the most incredible children two parents could ask for Lydia (Craig) Higgins, Alfred (Rose Marie) Ford and Rebecca (Todd) Pennell.  Our families continued to grow and were able to give our parents 6 beautiful grandchildren – Ashley, Jeremy, Nicole, Vanessa, Sarah and Nicholas and 6 months ago, mom and dad welcomed their very first great grandson, Isaiah.  Dad also leaves to mourn his younger sister, Janet (Ed) Decker of Loon Bay, NL.

The true love of Dad’s life was his wife of 57 years – 63 years in total - Jean (nee Rodway). Their courtship and our lives together included many road trips, camping, fishing, hunting, berry picking, picnics, renovating, snowmobiling, four wheeling, cross country skiing, ice & roller skating, darts, family swimming (followed by Happy Packs at A & W drive in), Valmont Drive in movies, boating…the list is never ending!) Dad and Mom instilled in us the true value of the meaning and importance of family – the same values that we continue to nurture our own families with.  Where one would be, you would be sure to see the other.  Dad’s devotion to mom and our family will be rivalled by no other.

Dad moved from his hometown of Island Harbor, Fogo Island in1958 to St. John’s to pursue a career in the Auto Body Repair Trade where he graduated top of his class.  A job opportunity was presented to him in Corner Brook.  During this time, Dad developed great friendships and through these friendships he met the love of his life…our mom.  Later in his chosen profession, he was presented with an opportunity to gain employment with the Corner Brook Fire Department as an Auto Body Repairman maintaining the department’s vehicles.  Within a brief period, he was offered the position of First Class Firefighter – it was then that he began and developed his 35 year career until he his retirement for health reasons in 1998 with the rank of Captain for which he was very proud.

Dad was also a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Service Club for in excess of 30 years as well as a member of the Grand Lodge of NL & Labrador – Masonic Lodge Corner Brook Chapter from 1997 until his passing.

Dad was a man of faith.  It was his faith that carried him through his entire life and it was his faith that he gave credit to during his illness and time of need.

Thank you to all who supported Dad and our family during the last four years and especially during these last couple of weeks.  Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

As per Dad’s wishes, no flowers by request but donations to the Shriners Club would be greatly appreciated as this foundation was very near and dear to our dad’s heart.
