Obituary of Enid Sarah Stevenson

Enid Stevenson

Corner Brook, NL

November 29, 1920 - November 18, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Enid Stevenson announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, with her family by her side at WMRH on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Enid was a longstanding contributor to her community in so many ways. She started her career as a nurse during World War II, and continued her service at home in the hospital, in private practice, and as ‘Nursie’ at Killdevil Camp for many summers. With devotion to her faith, she earned a Lifetime Membership with the United Church Women (UCW), was a regular member of a Bible group and taught Sunday school for many years. As an avid gardener, she advocated caring for our environment in natural ways, and was a member of the Environmental Group for many years in Corner Brook. As a crafter, she enjoyed knitting and in particular, making her unique clothes pin dolls. She was also an animal lover and cherished her walks, spending time in the garden and trips to Bonne Bay with her dogs over the years. She led a very full life and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Left to mourn are her children: Joyce Feaver, Bruce (Gale) Stevenson and Anne Taaffe; daughter-in-law: Jean (Steve) Stevenson; grandchildren: Michael (Nicole) Feaver, David (Melissa) Feaver, Tania (Jean-Paul) Pendergast, Andrew (Evelyne) Stevenson, Steve Taaffe, Sara Taaffe, Heather Matthews, Adam Stevenson, Dougald Feaver, and June Stickland; great grandchildren: Silas, Alex, Lauren, Simon, Callum, Leo, Colin, Eleanore, Isadora, Aurelia, Katie, Charlie, Ryan (Amber), Blair, Evan, Chris (Melissa); great-great grandchildren: Marissa, Abigail, Landon, Layla, and Brady.

She was pre-deceased by: parents Charles and Sarah (Hitcham) Gates; husband David; son Roger; grandsons: Brian Stevenson and Bradley DiCesare; son-in-law Robert Feaver; brothers: George and Robert (Jean); nephews: Gifford Gates and Douglas Gates; parents-in-law William and Elizabeth Stevenson; brothers-in-law: James (Marion), Robert (Ruby) and Tom; sisters-in-law: Bessie (John), Mary (Harold), Jean (Fred), Millie (Sydney), and Agnes.

A special thank you to Dr. Robert O’Driscoll for the care he provided over the years, the Mountain View Estates Retirement Home staff, and the staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation and a Funeral Service will be held at the Fillatres Funeral Home Chapel at 4 St. Mark’s Avenue in Corner Brook on November 22, 2022 at 11am. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to our local SPCA: Bay of Islands/NL West SPCA in Corner Brook.
