Mildred Gladys Batt, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Western Long Term Care, Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook, NL, on November 24, 2022, at the age of 92. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Milligan, sisters Gwendolyn Parsons, Norma Burry and brothers Arthur, Gerald, and Reginald Holwell. She leaves behind her sons, Robert (Valda), David (Sandie) and her daughter, Joyce (Don) Hynes, six grandchildren, Heather (Paul) Huff, Scott (Tamara) Batt, Corey (Courtlin) Batt, Shawna Hynes (Richard Measham), Neil Hynes, and Brandon (Jenna) Batt, as well as nine precious great-grandchildren. 

Mildred grew up in Herring Neck, a small fishing village on the northeast coast of Newfoundland. Upon graduation from high school she attended summer school in St. John's to become an elementary school teacher. A teaching position brought her to Corner Brook with her fiancée, Milligan, who built a house for them and their future family.  They were married in August 1953 and moved into their newly built house on their wedding night - a home they shared together for over 60 years.

Mom was a gentle woman whose life was entirely dedicated to her husband and family.  Putting her teaching career aside shortly after marriage, she wholeheartedly adopted the role of mother, homemaker and supporter to all. Mom, your love, nurturing, and support will always be held dear in our hearts. You will be sorely missed and always remembered.

In Mildred’s memory, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church, or one may choose to simply gift an act of kindness in her memory.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, November 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Marks Avenue. A joint service will be held at a later date for the internment of both Mildred and Milligan.
