Obituary of Eileen Mary Doyle

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eileen Mary Doyle announce her passing on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Center at the age of 92 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Danny (Christine), Eleanor, Bernice, John, Robert (Nancy), Janet (Todd) and Carolyn; grandchildren: Janice, Jessica, Sean, Hillary, Stephen, Ian, Laura, Ivan, and Iva; step-grandchildren: Robert and Laura; great-grandchildren: Lauren, Brooks, Hugh, Larson, Greyson, and Ava; brother-in-law: Pat Whalen; sister-in-law: Kay Doyle.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband: Michael Doyle; parents: Elizabeth and John Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law: Susan Doyle; Sister: Marguerite Whalen; brothers: Phillip (Agnes) Fitzgerald, Jack Fitzgerald, and Bill (Kay) Fitzgerald.

Eileen was born and raised in South River, Conception Bay to Elizabeth and John Fitzgerald. She was the second youngest of their five children. After completing high school, Eileen obtained her teachers certificate and taught at the local school before beginning her nursing career. She graduated from St. Clare’s Nursing School in 1951 and moved to the west coast to work at the hospital in Corner Brook. She later met Michael Doyle and they married in 1957 and had seven children. Eileen worked various roles throughout her career in nursing. Her dedication to her career was evident throughout her time as a nurse with her coworkers always speaking fondly of her. Eileen felt that nursing was a fulfilling career and encouraged her daughters to pursue the same career path. She retired in 1990 and went on to enjoy her later years with family and friends.

We would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Morris, the staff at the Bungalows and Corner Brook Long Term Care Centre, and Angela and Della who provided exceptional care during these last years. Your kindness and compassion will always be remembered.

A visitation for friends and family will take place at Fillatre Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue, on Friday, December 9, 2022, from the hours of 2-4 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, at 10:00 AM from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed through the Fillatre Funeral Home Facebook page.

As expressions of sympathy, flowers will be graciously accepted, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
