The family of the late Helen Marie Joseph would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Fillatre’s Funeral Home, especially Laura and Ernie, for their kindness, care, and compassion shown during this most difficult time. A sincere thank you to Lloyd Bartlett who provided a soothing ambiance by playing his guitar for those who visited the funeral home.
Thank you, Father Terry, for your many visits to Helen during her time at Protective Bungalow #1 where she lived for 10 years and the 4th Floor, Valleyside House, Western Long Term Care Building for her remaining 2 years; and, to Father Lee Lainey for officiating at the funeral mass and for your heartfelt tribute to Helen’s life. In addition, our sincere thank you to the Griffin Family for your beautiful guitar music and to Arlene D’Eon for your angelic voice, singing On Eagles Wings. Also, to those of All Hallows Parish who were an integral part of the funeral mass, we thank you for your service. We especially want to thank Jim for the readings as we know you put your heart and soul into it, for your sister.
A sincere thank you to everyone for your support; thank you for your visit to the funeral home, your phone calls, your beautiful sympathy cards, your text messages, for the food, the flowers you sent and for the many other donations you made. Also, to our family who was so supportive to Helen during her time of illness, there are no words to express the appreciation we have for you all, for being there to help in any and every way possible, and for the immeasurable amounts of love and care that was shown during this time.
Last but certainly not least, we would like to extend a very sincere thank you to the staff of Protective Bungalow #1 and the staff of 4th Floor, Valleyside House, Western Long Term Care Building, you took such wonderful care of Helen and made every day very special for her. Your dedication will never be forgotten.

April 26, 1935 – December 20, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Helen Marie Joseph announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Western Long Term Care, 4th Floor at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with many wonderful and loving memories her son: Bob Joseph (Phil Conway); Grandson: Kevin Joseph (Holly Costello); Great-Grandchildren: Rudy, Felix, and Annie; Step-Grandson: Curt Conway; Great-Grandchildren: Morgan and Tess.
Brothers and Sisters: Tom O’Neill (Loretta); Maureen Gilbert (David) of Michigan; Marcus O’Neill (Rita); Sheila Zubajlo (Henry) of Maryland; Peggy Baxter (Bob); Jim O’Neill (Lorna); as well as a large circle of special nephews and nieces, other relatives, and many friends, especially Diane Rowe and Sheila George.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Michael (Mick) Joseph; her parents Marcus and Mary O’Neill; her brother Edward O’Neill; her nephews Mark Gilbert and Michael Zubajlo; and her niece Kim Hughes.
Helen loved to play softball, curl, golf, and fish and certainly enjoyed her many weekends at her cabin in Howley, not to mention play a good game of 45’s and 120’s. She was also an avid traveller, visiting many parts of Canada and the United States, including Hawaii.
A very sincere thank you to the staff of Protective Bungalow #1 and the staff of 4th floor, Valleyside House, Western Long Term Care Building for their extraordinary and selfless caring during her illness.
At Helen’s request cremation has taken place and visitation for family and friends will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Mark’s Avenue, Thursday, December 22 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at All Hallows Church, Humber Road, Friday, December 23 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Lee Lainey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NL Chapter of The Alzheimer’s Society, Corner Brook Food Bank, or a charity of one’s choice.
The family has requested that masks be worn at both the visitation and the service.
