Hazel Maude Palmer

May 21, 1926 – December 27, 2022

Corner Brook, NL

It is with sadness and thanksgiving to God for a life well lived that the family of the late Hazel Maude Palmer announce her peaceful passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 27 at the age of 96 years. Hazel leaves to mourn her children: Theresa Collins (Ernest), Sharon Pippy, Marilyn Ball (Donald); son Larry Palmer (Kathy); son-in-law David Kawaja; her sisters: Joyce Murkins Robbins and Daisey Guy (Seymore); brothers: Donald Belbin (Jean) and Walter Belbin (Cettena); sisters-in-law Marie Belbin and Pansy Squires. Her much beloved 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Deliah Belbin, her much beloved husband of 74 years Frank Palmer, daughter Thelma Kawaja, brother Ronald Belbin, sister Edna Pynn (Gordon), brothers-in-law Burt Murkin, Ray Robbins and Elmer Squires, son-in-law Chesley Pippy.

Hazel was a stay at home mother that worked outside the home for a short time in support of her husband and family. She enjoyed baking and could whip up a meal out of very little, Mother enjoyed her garden of plants, shrubs and flowers and always had a collection of house plants. Her ability to knit, crochet and do needle point was performed at a professional level. There was no pattern that she would not attempt and in every case conquer. Since arriving in Corner Brook in 1948 mother was a lifelong member of Westside Tabernacle and a faithful follower of God.

A special thanks to the management and staff of Mountain View Retirement Centre for their kindness and care of Mother during her three years at their home. Also the nurses and staff of 3B & 3C Western Health who were so caring and thoughtful. Also thank you to Dr. Bob O’Driscoll, Dr. Kate Lafferty and nurse practitioner Lacey Sparkes. Professionals like you make dealing with our loss a lot easier.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 31 at 2:00 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Simms officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Flowers will be graciously accepted, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Corner Brook Food Bank Network or a charity of one’s choice.
