Obituary of Rosemary Glasco Whelan
Passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2023 at the Western Regional Hospital (Palliative Care Unit) Rosemary (Glasco) Whelan, age 96. She was predeceased by her loving husband James Alton Whelan, parents John and Stella Glasco, siblings Florence, Joseph and James. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Alton (Margaret), Francis (Lynn), Bernadette (Derek), Gerry (Pamela), eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Rosemary (Mary) led a full and productive life. Along with raising her children, Rosemary operated in the 1960’s Bernadette’s Beauty Salon at 34 Main Street, looked after the store (Jerry’s Confectionary) with husband Jim. Rosemary also kept a tourist home with Jim and the stories of those years keep coming. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League and member of the Humber Singers with her buddy Jim. Rosemary was a prolific knitter and contributed her wares to both the Western Memorial gift shop and many Christmas charities. Mom was a loving, caring wife and mother who also loved the outdoors. She held her own with Jim when it came to trout fishing on the Humber. Mother was blessed with special caregivers over the past number of years. Thank you Sue Wheaton, Lucy Branton, Margie Wall, Shelly MacArthur and Phillis Coleman. Our mother could not have had such a healthy and long life without the most caring and professional Doctor, Birender Wadhwa and receptionist Dianna. Special thanks to the wonderful Nurses and Doctor Lafferty at Palliative Care and Danielle Caines, Community Health Nurse. To our local extended family who provided aunt Mary with tender loving care over the years, thank -you. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 22nd at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 4 St. Mark’s Avenue from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 23rd, 2023 at 10:00 am from The Cathedral of Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue with Father Ed Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Western Regional Hospital Foundation.
