Harold Weldon Ball (“Smokey”)
Deer Lake, Newfoundland
January 20th, 1935 - February 22nd, 2023
Harold “Smokey” Ball passed peacefully away at the age of 88 on February 22nd, 2023 at the Western Long Term Care-Palliative Care Unit surrounded by his loving family. Harold “Smokey” Ball was born and raised in Deer Lake. He lived life to the fullest for 88 years. He was very proud to be Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Deer Lake and serve the fine people of this Town. He loved to have discussions on politics, sports and salmon fishing and was a great story teller. He could be found at A&W with his buddies or John Goulding’s Garage every morning. He spent countless hours at the Tailrace and touring around Town to see the latest construction updates. He enjoyed his Friday night chats at Langers and attending the Deer Lake Red Wing Hockey Games. He was also an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He had special friendships with Guy “Musk” Caravan, Rod Brophy, and Neil Smith. His greatest passion was fly tying and he was known as he would say, ” All over the world “, for SMOKEYS BOMBERS. But his greatest love of all was his family.
