February 2, 1946 – March 3, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Shirley Winsor announce her passing on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Western Long Term Care, Palliative Care Unit at the age of 77 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 55 years Roy Winsor; son Brian (Alison) Winsor; grandchildren: Sam and Sarah Winsor; sisters: Marjorie Campbell and Sylvia (William) Bennett; sisters and brother-in-law: Margaret Bailey, Effie Roche, Joy Mercer, Harry Campbell and Joan Winsor; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Hayward and Mildred Mercer, brothers and sisters Baxter (Dora) Mercer, Edward (Nell) Mercer, Eric Mercer, Barbara (Lawrence) Gosse, Jean (Don) Jenkins, Mildred (Bob) Cleland and Vera Campbell; parents-in-law Pierce and Rita Winsor, brothers and sister-in-law Ronald Campbell, Calvin Winsor, Dora (Richard) Byrne, Gerry Dean and Dwayne Bailey.

Shirley was born in Bay Roberts, NL and grew up in Gander, NL. After completing high school she attended University and became a teacher. She moved to Corner Brook to begin teaching school and met and married Roy. Shirley enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, she loved the outdoor where she enjoyed walking, camping and fishing. She spent many hours in the stadium watching her son Brian play hockey over the years, hockey was always a big part of their family time. She certainly enjoyed her "annual Sister get-togethers". Shirley was a quiet and caring lady and will be missed by all who knew her. A special thank you to her family Doctor, Dr. Peter Callahan and his staff, Dr. Wijay and staff, all the nurses and staff of Western Memorial Regional Hospital 3rd and 4th floors and the Palliative Care Unit for the exceptional care. Thank you Sylvia and William Bennett, and Marjorie Campbell for their caring support. A very special thank you to neighbours Ed and Joyce Robinson, Dave and Kitty Hutchings for all you have done. A thank you to Fillatre's Funeral Home for their kind and professional support.

A private visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 6 from 2-4 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue with a funeral service starting at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Canon Tanya White officiating. Cremation will follow with interment to be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit Make a Donation | Western Health or to the CNIB Single Gift (donorportal.ca)
