It is with great sadness that the family of the late Derek "Dic" Robin Oates announce his passing on Friday, April 14, 2023 at the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook at the age of 66 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 42 years Cathy (nee Chubbs); daughters: Cheryl (Chris Compagnon) and Rebecca Oates; brothers: Cecil, Ted and Melvin Oates; sisters: Joyce Crowley and Vicki Oates Thorne and his special little buddy Adam Jones; as well as a large circle of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Molly Oates, sister Sybil Wright, brothers Bill, Art and Tom Oates. Derek was a proud Brother of Lodge Lomond Masonic Lodge in Corner Brook. Cremation has taken place, there will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.
