December 24, 1942 - May 16, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing, due to a short illness, of Benjamin Childs on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, in his 80th year, surrounded by his loving family by his side. He leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories, his wife of 57 years, Madonna Childs. Son Jason (Jennifer) childs, daughter Joanne (Roger) Sheppard. Grandchildren, Joshua (Hailey), Alison (Mitchell), Zachary (Riley), Randy (Laura). Brothers and sisters, Melissa Kendall, Winston (Dorothy) Childs, Louise Park, Austin (Lena) Childs, Irene (George) Cake, Mildred (Austin) Sheppard, Faye Childs, Llewellyn (Marlaine) Childs, Ruth (Angus) Sheppard, Rudy (Paul) Sheppard, Nancy (Kirby) Price. Sister-In-Law Margaret Hynes and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Junior Strickland. Benjamin is predeceased by his parents, Llewellyn & Mary Jane Childs, parents-in-law, Harvey & Ella Sheppard, sister Jessie Bailey, Brothers-in-law, Wilson Kendall, Russell Park, Barry Garland, Joseph Hynes and nephew Grant Sheppard.

Ben will be missed by all who knew him. Ben enjoyed everything about the outdoors. Whether it was fishing, hunting, berry picking or cutting wood. He loved spending time with his family and conversations with his many friends. Whoever met Ben, called him friend. Go rest high on that mountain.

Special thank you to the ICU staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital for the wonderful care. Your kindness will always be remembered.

In keeping with Ben’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Friday May 19th, 2023 at St. James Anglican Church from 2-4 and 7-9. Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 2:00pm with Rev. Effie Organ officiating, followed by the interment at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted.or donations in Ben’s memory can be made to the St. James Anglican Church in Lark Harbour.
