March 15, 1934 - May 17, 2023

With sad hearts we are announcing the passing away of Stanley James Mercer on Wednesday, May 17th 2023 at the age of 89 years. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 61 years, Lottie, daughter Jill (Mike), son Derrick (Glenda), and four grandchildren: Marigold, James, Brady, and Kaelyn. Also left to mourn are an extensive list of family and friends who lovingly played a huge role in Stan’s life. This list would not be complete without his two home care workers, Peggy and Wanda, and a lady who considered him her grandfather, Angie. 

Stan will be remembered as a “character”, a man of wit and zest who, like the energizer bunny, kept going and going. His comedic antics would light up a room and his energy was infectious. A lover of the great outdoors, he dragged his willing wife and children over river rocks, through ant nests, and across bog and barren in pursuit of moose, caribou, salmon, berries, and adventure. He was also as at home and comfortable on the water as a gull, and his younger years spent traveling the world as ships’ deckhand spawned continued seaborne adventures along the Burgeo coastline. 

Stan has indeed left a positive and happy impression on the lives that he touched, and memories of time with him will keep our hearts light and our minds carefree.

Thank you to the nurses and Dr. and the rest of the staff who took care of Stan, during his short stay at the Calder Healthcare Centre. 

Visitation will take place at Faith United Church, Burgeo, on Saturday, May 20th from 2-4 pm and from 7-9 pm.

A Celebration of Stan’s life will take place on Sunday at Faith United Church, at 2 pm officiated by Rev. William Matchem.
