Obituary of Pearl Mary Ann Patey

Pearl Mary Ann Patey (née Caines)
March 6, 1946 - May 17, 2023

Pearl Patey, beloved wife of Don Patey, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 77 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.

Born in Deer Lake, raised in Birchy Head, she later moved to Corner Brook for work where she made many close friendships and met her future husband, Don. They married in St. Anthony in 1964 and raised three daughters in Corner Brook.

Their lives were filled with joy, laugher, travels, camping, curling, a good game of cards, and making many friends. She made every occasion special, with Halloween and Christmas being her favorites. Above all, she will be remembered for her sense of humour, generosity, work ethic, always thinking of others before herself and never really being able to sit down for more than 10 minutes. Her fudge was legendary, and she always made sure no one left the house hungry (and often with something for them to enjoy later). Her creativity had many outlets including cake decorating, sewing, knitting, ceramics painting and playing funny pranks. She was well loved by all, and her light will be missed.

Besides her loving husband, Don, Pearl is survived by her daughters Karen Webster (Chris, Sam - grandson; Calgary, AB), Donna Patey (Andy; Moncton, NB), and Susan Patey LeDrew (Donald; Houston, TX). Other family members include nieces and nephews Janet Young, Todd McLeod, Jackie Patey Coates (Terry) and other family and friends in Newfoundland and mainland Canada. She is predeceased by her parents, Myrtle (née Atkins) and Ambrose Caines, and sister Dorothy. The family thanks all for their condolences and support and invites you to join us for a service on Saturday, May 27 at 2 p.m. at the Anglican Church of the Resurrection in Birchy Head, Bonne Bay followed by tea at the community hall. There will also be an opportunity to share your memories of her with the family on Monday, May 29, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home and Chapel at 4 St. Mark’s Avenue in Corner Brook. She will be interned at Mt. Patricia cemetery in Corner Brook at a later date. Donations to a charity of your choice in Pearl’s honour would be appreciated.
