William (Bill) Michael Bungay
June 30, 1939 – May 19, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Dad and Poppy, Bill Bungay, in the presence of his loving family on May 19, 2023 at the age of 83 years. Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his life are his daughters Darlene (Bob) Whalen and Libby (Todd) Chaulk, his son Alfred Bungay, and his cherished and much-loved grandchildren Alex Whalen (Ashley) and Amanda Whalen (Emma), Cohen Chaulk (Jenna) and Jillian Chaulk, and Aaron Bungay (Farrah) and Heather Bungay and their mother Heidi Bungay. Also mourning his loss are his sister and brother-in-law Ada and Eric Moulton, his brother Charles Bungay, his sisters-in-law Jean Ford, Helen (Chuck) Higgins and Marg Rodway, and friends and staff at Mountainview Retirement Home where he resided for the past three and half years.
Dad was predeceased by his daughter and our sister Louise in 2012 and his wife and our mom and Nanny, Marguerite, in 2018, as well as his parents James and Martha Bungay, mom’s parents Lydia and Alfred Rodway, and his in-laws Joyce Bungay, Humphrey Ford, Gordon Rodway, Wallace and Maxine Rodway, Charles Rodway, and Olive and Frank MacWhirter.
Born and raised in Mose Ambrose, Fortune Bay, Dad will be remembered as an intelligent, gentle, and generous man whose life was centered around his family and his community. He and Mom were proud residents of Corner Brook, where they built a full and happy life surrounded by family and friends. An avid salmon fisherman, Dad loved the outdoors, a scenic ski-doo trip and a good game of cards. Above all, Dad valued hard work and serving others – he had a long business career and was dedicated to giving back to his community. Our Poppy will be greatly missed, but we are at peace knowing he is once again dancing with Nanny to the sound of Louise’s beautiful voice.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to the medical staff of Western Memorial Hospital, 4th Floor Surgical Unit, and the palliative care unit for your kindness and compassion for Dad and the family over these past few weeks. Thanks also to Rev. Canon David Russell and Rev. Canon Tanya White for their visits and support.
In accordance with Dad’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Sunday, June 4th from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 5th at 2:00 p.m.from All Saints Anglican Church, Clarence Street with Reverend Tanya White officiating. Following the funeral service, all are welcome to gather downstairs for fellowship and refreshments. The interment of ashes will take place at Mt. Patricia cemetery directly following the reception.
