It is with great sadness that the family of the late Terry Wayne Gilbert announce his passing on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family at the age of 73 years. Terry had a love for sports, especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He loved fishing and hunting and being outdoors in nature. He enjoyed his evenings, whether in the shed or on side by side with his friends, especially the highwaymen. Most importantly, he loved his family, as evident in the love and care he showed his wife and spending time with his adult children.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; daughter Tracey Childs (Terry), sons Duane (Nicole), Jamie (Suzanne), Ivan (Krista); nine precious grandchildren: Charmaine (Danny), Nicholas (Emily), Jesse, Marcus (Lindsey), Jenny, Sara, Jada, Ryan and Cooper; two great grandchildren: Sadie and Paisley, to which he was known as Pop Pop.
Siblings: Beatrice (Freeman), Raleigh Gilbert, Joanne Sheppard (Graham)
Sisters and brothers-in-law: Catherine Bourgeois (Larry), George Sheppard (Hazel), Roy Sheppard (Madonna) & Ivan Sheppard, Christine Gilbert, Christine Sheppard and Marina Sheppard; as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, special caregiver Natasha Stewart, daughter-in-law Wanda.
Predeceased by his loving wife Barbara, his parents, Wesley and Maryanne Gilbert, parents-in-law Noble and Jessie Sheppard, brother Gordon (Patricia), sisters and brothers-in-law: Florence Hickman (Garfield), Dorothy Byrne (Gerald), Harold Sheppard (Grace), Eric Sheppard, Norman Bourgeois and Gerald Sheppard.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregiver Natasha, the staff of the cancer centre, Dr. Park and Dr. Armstrong. Granting his wishes, cremation has taken place at the Humber Valley Crematorium. Family and friends may visit St. James Anglican church, Lark Harbour, Friday June 2 from 7-9. The funeral service will take place from St. James Church on Saturday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Effie Organ officiating. Internment to follow at the church cemetary. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted and donations can be made to the St. James Memorial Fund.
