Obituary of Doreen Parsons-Whyte
Parsons-Whyte, Doreen
Age 86, passed away on the 31st of December, 2022 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, NS. Born in Summerside, NL she was the daughter of the late Martha Elizabeth Loder (Parsons) and Albert Richard Loder. She was predeceased by her husband’s Gerald Whyte (Lower Ship Harbour, NS) and Bernard Parsons (Halifax, NS) as well as sisters Hilda Ruth and Marie Loder (both of Summerside, NL). She is survived by her son Stephen Parsons and daughter-in-law Alice McCarthy (Halifax, NS); sisters Mona McAulay (Summerside, NL) and Shirley Loder (Halifax, NS); grandchildren Daniel and Rebecca (Halifax, NS) and her nieces and nephews. She worked for many years in retail sales and administration, first with the Co-op in Corner Brook NL and later with Eatons and Sears in Halifax. She met her first husband Bernard in Corner Brook and they were married in 1961. Shortly after, they moved to Halifax, NS for a few years before returning to Corner Brook where their son was born in 1965. They returned to Halifax in 1968 and lived there until Bernard passed in 1978. She re-married in 1981 to Gerald and they eventually settled in Ship Harbour, NS until their retirement. It was at this time she embraced her real lifelong passion for arts, crafts and painting. They spent most of their retirement creating various woodworking pieces, handicrafts and tole painted items. She and Jerry would frequent craft shows to sell their work and took on many orders for a wide arrangement of Christmas items for over 20 years. Later, as it became more difficult to do the detailed painting, she switched to primarily knitting and produced many craft items for another 10 years. She donated many of her craft and knitted items to charities such as the Neonatal ICU at IWK and for various seasonal charity fundraisers. Our family dinners and holiday celebrations at their home in Ship Harbour, NS will be greatly missed by family and friends. We would like to thank the QEII doctors, nurses and staff on 8.1 at the Infirmary site, 5A and 3B at the Victoria General site for their compassionate care and friendship during her illness. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Corner Brook. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10th at 2pm in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Summerside NL. This will be followed by interment at Mount Patricia Cemetery, Corner Brook NL. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Summerside NL.
