Obituary of Joan Dicks

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Dicks announce her passing at home on June 25, 2023 in her 89^th year.  Joan was born in Corner Brook on June, 8, 1934 to Claude and Rita Guy. Being the first of fifteen children (12 boys and 3 girls) and the oldest girl, she took on a lot of the child-rearing and household duties from a young age. In 1957, Joan married Peter Dicks and had a family of her own. Two of her five children, Peter and Catherine, predeceased her, as did her husband, Peter. Her other children, Joseph, Rita, and Joanie, are left mourning for her.  Joan’s parents and nine of her brothers (Wilson, Clarence “Chum”, Clifford “Tom”, Frank, Kevin Sr., David “Satch”, Eugene “Mose”, Jim, and Claude Jr.)  also pre-deceased her.  Her remaining brothers, Jerry, Larry and Wilfred, and sisters, Judy and Diane, are left mourning the loss of their oldest sibling.  Joan also leaves many loving sons- and daughters-in-law, grand-children, great-grand-children, nieces and nephews. Several of Joan’s brothers were accomplished athletes and Joan was an avid sports fan, following her beloved Blue Jays right to the end. Hopefully there’s a big screen TV in heaven! 

There will be no visitation. The interment will take place at Mount Patricia Cemetery at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 28 with Fr. Edward Terry presiding.  The family guestbook may be signed by visiting www.fillatre.ca .
