Ada Bernice Colbourne 1934-2022 It is with great sadness that the family of Ada Bernice Colbourne announce her passing at the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou County, NS, on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the age of 88 years. Bernice was born in Lewins Cove, Newfoundland on April 27th, 1934. She studied and received her teaching certificate in St. Johns, NL. She married and was predeceased by Robert (Bob) Colbourne of Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He passed away in 1968, leaving Bernice to raise their 4 Boys and 2 Girls alone. Despite losing her husband so young, she was a tough cookie. Mom loved to take the family on adventures with the tent trailer and in the famous orange Volkswagen camper van. She toured both Europe and Australia on her own with only a backpack. Mom had courage and ambition and was a force to be reckoned with! She loved to spoil Susan’s dogs (whom she always said were Susan’s- everyone knew they were hers at heart). Bernice took Morgan, Maggie and then Mabel for many walks on Melmerby beach and around New Glasgow where she resided since moving from Corner Brook NL to Dartmouth and then New Glasgow NS where she maintained her own home. Mom was very independent, she owned land and a cabin in Oyster Pond where she loved to spend time cutting wood with her own chainsaw, having campfires, and doing work outside. Bernice was also a volunteer, who gave her time unselfishly at the Aberdeen Hospital and the Anglican church. She enjoyed playing darts, quilting, walking, reading and spent hours and hours cross stitching beautifully detailed stockings for each and every member of her family. She enjoyed many drives with her daughter Susan, visiting friends and family (especially Julie’s visits) across the country and her annual shopping trip to Maine. Bernice enjoyed a good meal, and was an excellent cook, she also loved to chat and tell stories with family and friends. Bernice was predeceased by her parents John and Mabel Inkpen of Lewins Cove; a sister Helen, brother Harold: daughter Anne and sons Robert (Jean) and Gerry (Carmen). Leaving to mourn with loving and precious memories, daughter Susan and sons Jeffery (Belinda) and Stephen (Melvie); sisters Judy, Jackie, Linda, Sandra, Agnes, Vera; brothers Theodore, Gilbert, Levi, Derek; grandchildren: Deanna, Robbie, Nicole, Holly, Zack, Craig, and Claire; great grandchildren Braya, Lauryn, and Miles. As well as many extended family and friends. Special thank you to the Aberdeen Hospital and Shiretown Nursing Home staff for their wonderful care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Mount Patricia Cemetery in Corner Brook, NL on Saturday September 9th, 2023 at12:00 noon.  Donations in memory of Bernice can be made to the Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke or a charity of your choosing.
