Obituary of Winnifred Ann O'Dell

It is with great sadness that we announce Winnifred Ann O’Dell passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years old on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL surrounded by her loving family. Winnie was born and raised in L’anse Au Loup and was known for being a very mild, kind and gentle woman with a witty sense of humor. Her love for her family was her most precious jewel. Each had a special place in her heart. She loved and cherished her brother and sister so much. Winnie’s favourite place was Schooner Cove where she could be found gardening, picking berries, renovating her cabin, or serving up a meal to a crowd.
Winnie was predeceased by her sister Mary Cabot, her husband Ronald O’Dell, parents Vincent and Lucy Cabot, and her second oldest son, Bucky, whom she grieved for 43 years. Leaving to cherish her beautiful and sweet memories are her children: Vince (Helen) O’Dell, Shane (Anne Gibbons) O’Dell, Rufina O’Dell, Bert (Pauline) O’Dell, Lucy (Rodney) Normore, Rosina (Terry) Casey, Sheila (Terry) Maher, and grandchildren Dayna, Danika, Barbara, Jenetta, Shannon (Riley), Shauna (Garrett), Chelsea (Greg), Nikki (Mathieu), Noelle, Amber, Jacob (Megan), Nicholas (Natasha), Jeffrey (Jessica), Becky (Jacob), Michael (Jennifer). Her great grandchildren, Jayme, Jayla, Talen, Jaxsin, Ciarra, Brooklyn, Theodore, Kaliyah, Liam, Lincoln, Noah, Jonah, Nash. Her beautiful sister Rita Ryland and brother Bill Cabot. Mom leaves behind her special friends Howard, Noreen and Brandon O’Dell, Alice Cabot, Ann O’Brien and Kathleen Cabot.
Thank you to the Labrador South Ambulance staff who always treated our mom with utmost respect. Thank you to the staff in the emergency department and first floor of the Curtis Memorial Hospital. The care, compassion and kindness you gave to our mom will be forever in our hearts. From the moment mom arrived to her last moments you made her comfortable. And to one of moms nurses, Heidi Walker there are no words to describe the care you showed us. Thank you so, so much.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Labrador church, in West St. Modeste, NL. The family service will take place on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday July 19, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Labrador Church in West St. Modeste. Everyone is welcome to attend. Interment will follow at the L’anse Au Loup Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Fillatre Funeral Home's, L’anse Au Loup.
