Obituary of Effie Grace Best

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Effie Best announce her passing at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 82 years.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter: Rhona (Gerard); sons: Eugene JR, Michael (Sharon), Paul (Bev), and Melvin (June): grandchildren: Bonnie, Tracy, Brandon, Paul JR, Matthew, Rachelle, Renee, Ida, Daniel, Cavelle, Amy, Andrea, and Amanda: and great-grandchildren.

Sisters: Martha, Rebecca, Lavenia and Vern (Jacques); brothers: Garfield (Lily), Melvin (Dot) and Hounsel (Gertie); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff who took care of mom during her stay at the Labrador Health Centre, Labrador West Health Centre and Harbour View Manor in Mary’s Harbour. Special thanks to Cindy Barrett, Peggie Best and Karen Best who helped during this trying time. As well as family and friends who brought food and offered support.

Effie was predeceased by her husband: Eugene SR; parents: Phoebe and James Bessey: sisters: Violet, Jessie and Vine.

A visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 26^th, 2023, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm for family. Visitations will also take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on July 27^th, 2023 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm for the public.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 28^th, 2023, at the United Church in Happy Valley – Goose Bay, NL starting at 2:00pm with the Rev Nellie Thomas officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations can be made to the United Church in Happy Valley – Goose Bay, NL.
