It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hugh Thomas Gillis announce his passing on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Corner Brook Long Term Care at the age of 89 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 68 years Theresa; children: Daniel (Diane), Eugene (Diann), Agnes (Ernest) Madore, Dominic (Edie), Hilda (Morgan) Butt, Patrick (Krista), Harold (Tanya) and Terrence (Denise); 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Vera Bruce and Emeria Power, brother Malcolm (Florence) Gillis; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Alfreda Gillis, newborn baby daughter, brother Douglas (Catherine) Gillis and brother-in-law Patrick Power. A special thank you to the staff at Corner Brook Long Term Care, 4 North for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Columcille Roman Catholic Church in St. Fintan’s with Father Gerard Patry officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Highlands. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Columcille Roman Catholic Parish in St. Fintan’s.
