John Thomas Colson

October 20, 1943 – August 27, 2023

Corner Brook, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Thomas Colson announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, August 27, 2023 surrounded by his family at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 79 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 58 years Jean (nee Francis); children: Glenn, Elizabeth (Soenke) Fehlberg and Roxanne Colson (Jeff Osmond); grandchildren: Trina (Adam), Jessica (Connor), Brittney (Luke), Melissa (Chris), Alisha (Jake), Christopher, Katie, Terrell, Vanessa, Kadin and Kendra; great-grandchildren: Charlie, Max, Luke, Arlo and Laila; brothers: Frank (Vera) and Terry; sister Joan (Ward); sister-in-law Eileen (Bob); special music buddies Andrew, Monte, Garland, Dean and Alex; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Thomas, parents Edward and Sadie Colson, brothers Olie (Rhoda), Jack (Ida), Lloyd and George, sisters Mary (Ernest) and Dolly (Ambrose); sister-in-law Lorraine Osbourne.

A true musician at heart he could play any instrument his hands touched and if he wasn’t playing his guitar he was probably listening to Jiggs and Reels while cooking up a big feed of jiggs dinner for his family. He was a great cook his homemade dressing and doughboy recipe will continue to be cherished and enjoyed. He was a man of many talents and loved working with his hands, he would be in his shed building homemade decorations for Christmas displays or hanging moose meat during hunting season. A Newfoundlander to his core, he loved his home, the culture and traditions that came with it. If you came from away he would be the first to ask if you saw any moose and would quickly grab his glasses to look at any pictures you had. He had a soft spot for his furry friends, his love and connection with his dogs was very special to him. He will be missed dearly by his fluffy friend Cookie, but we are sure he is with his beloved Candy, Trixie, Cuddles and Missy.

A special thank you to Western Memorial Regional Hospital Emergency Department and the ICU Department for the exceptional and compassionate care during his final days.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29 at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel with the Very Rev.
