It is with great sadness that the family of the late George William Sheppard announce his passing on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Western Memorial Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family and friends at the age of 72 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories: his wife of 53 years, Hazel; sons Philip, Pierre (Ann), Edwin (Shalenie), Patrick, Russell, Todd and daughters Jessie and Staci; four precious grandchildren: Silver (Nathan), Georgia (Donald), Reilly, Lily; great granddaughter Alex; sister Catherine Bourgeois (Larry); brothers Ivan Sheppard and Roy Sheppard (Madonna); brother and sisters-in-law Rodney Pennell, Patsy Wheeler, Georgina Park, Christine Sheppard and Marina Sheppard; and close special friends Freddy and Barb Youden, as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Noble and Jessie Sheppard, grandson Alex , sons Tim and Jade; sisters Barb Gilbert, Dorothy Byrne and Florence Hickman, brothers Harold, Gerald, and Eric Sheppard; brothers and sisters-in-law: Terry Gilbert, Norman Bourgeois, Gerald Byrne, Grace Sheppard and Garfield Hickman; father and mother-in-law Ralph and Dossie Pennell. The family would like to extend special thanks to April King at Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s and the Nurses and Staff of the Intensive Care Unit, at Western Memorial, for the continuous care and compassion. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Friends and family may visit St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour on Thursday September 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will take place from St. James Church on Friday, September, 8th at 2:00 PM with Reverend Effie Organ officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to St. James Memorial Fund
