Obituary of Lillian Elson
Lillian Loretta Elson (Hopkins), a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023 at Dr. Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by family after a brief illness .
Born on July 15, 1929, in Seal Islands, NL, Lillian's journey through life was marked by love, joy, and an unwavering dedication to her family, friends and community.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Sandy Elson, her parents, Millicent and Albert Hopkins, her sons Glen and Gordon, and her great-great-grandson Cole Elson. Although she has left this earthly realm, she will forever be remembered and cherished by those whose lives she touched.
Lillian's legacy lives on through her loving children: Violet (George) Kirby (Ida), Don (Bernice), Alec (Bobbie), Harriet (Terry), Bernice, Alton (Kim), Ivy and her precious 28 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Her expansive family, which extended to relatives and friends alike, mourns her loss with heavy hearts. Lillian's genuine love and care touched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.
Lillian was a woman who thrived in the company of others. She reveled in the joyful chaos of crowds, cherishing every opportunity to surround herself with family and friends. She possessed a remarkable talent for playing the accordion, and she eagerly entertained those around her whenever the chance arose. Lillian found solace and spiritual nourishment in her faith, faithfully attending church services throughout her life. Her hands were never idle, as she poured her creativity and love into knitting, creating beautiful works of art that brought warmth and comfort to others.
Above all, Lillian will be remembered for her infectious smile and kind-hearted nature. She was a beacon of light, radiating warmth and love to all who crossed her path. Her 94 years of life were filled with a tapestry of stories, some of which were challenging, some heartwarming, and others filled with laughter. Through it all, Lillian remained resilient, spreading positivity and making the world a better place.
She was a precious angel who graced this earth, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Her memory will forever be cherished by her extensive family and friends, who were fortunate to have shared in her love and wisdom. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us remember her infectious smile, her zest for life, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Rest peacefully, precious mother, grandmother and friend knowing that your legacy of love will endure for generations to come.
Funeral service will take place in Cartwright, NL at the Evangel Temple church on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 2pm.
