Obituary of Sophie Ford

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sophie Margaret Ford announce her passing on September 30, 2023 at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay at the age of 88 years.
Born in Black Island, Labrador on October 15, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Julius (Joe) and Rosina (Pamak) Ford.
Sophie will be most remembered for her roles as sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She led a full life and was loved by many. Her favourite pastimes were playing bingo, knitting, sewing and playing cards. She loved her wild food (fish and partridge) and in her younger years baked bread and pies and fed a large family. She gave freely of her love and had a way to make everyone feel special.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children Mary (Larry), Rosie (Brian), Joey (Susan), Harry (Pamela), Leo, George (Tina), Michael (Sarah), Karen (Barry), and John (Cathy); sisters Christine, Dora, and Ellen; 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Sophie was predeceased by her husband George; sons Philip and Billy; daughter Nancy; son-in-law Frank; daughters-in-law Mary and Brenda; sisters Martina (Teeny), Beatrice, and Judy; brothers Wilfred, John, and Donald; and grandchildren Samantha, Tyler, Mary, Corey, Edward-Marie, Donald, Julius.
Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the Moravian Church at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at the Moravian Church Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers and donations to the family are graciously accepted.
