Obituary of Garfield (Gary) Greene
Garfield “Gary” Greene
October 15, 1945 – September 30, 2023
Corner Brook, NL
It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Garfield “Gary” Greene announce his passing on Saturday September 30, 2023 at The Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 56 years and best friend Cecilia “Frances” Greene (nee Ezekiel); son: Michael Greene; grandchildren: Bradley (Abby) and Haley; sisters: Bernice, Meta (James) and Lila; brothers: Clarence (Judith) and Andrew (Myra); sisters-in-law: Mary, Elizabeth (Garry), Barbara (Hobart); brothers-in-law: Terrance (Lee), Brian (Rita), Phil (Vicki), David, Edward (Cheryl), Gary (Debbie); special friends: Ross and Maisie Grimes, Terry and Debbie Goulding and Brenda and Roland Leger; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Gary was predeceased by his parents Sydney and Lillian Greene; mother and father-in-law Michael and Patricia Ezekiel; Aunt and uncle John and Millie Bartlett; and special furbabies Pepper and Lacey.
Gary was a long time union activist in the Corner Brook and Provincial scene and fought long and hard for the rights of union members in the work place. He treasured his family and gave everything to support everything they endeavored to accomplish. His countless hours at the Hockey rinks and Jubliee field was a testament to his support to his grandchildren’s sporting activities. He spent countless hours in his work shop creating many wood projects for friends and relatives and the pure enjoyment of creating artwork. You could find both him and Frances from April to October in their little piece of heaven on earth at Bonne Bay Pond where they could be seen cruising the pond in their boat enjoying the peaceful solitude.
A special thank-you is extended to Dr. Martin and his team, Dr. Nicola Penney and the staff of Medical on Second for their long time and continued care, and the tremendous staff of 5 North A at the Health Sciences Centre for the exceptional care provided.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Tuesday, October 3 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue with Major Frank Johnson and Father Edward Terry officiating.
