My deepest condolences go to my Stepmom Linda, her siblings Cathy and Stephen, and their respective families (including my own Dad, Colin) as they say good bye to their beloved Dad.
I met Don, even before I knew Linda, back in my Junior Achievement days. He was a technical advisor to a bunch of teenagers learning how to safely operate shop equipment at the technical college where we built our JA products in the late 1980's and early 90's.
I remember admiring him for the care and time he took with each person he was teaching, as well as for the genuine respect he demonstrated for everyone he shared any conversation with. Don was a master craftsman -- a true subject matter expert and an even truer gentleman.
Later in life I would again experience those qualities, along with Don's sharp sense of humour and genuine curiosity for the world around him. Some of my favourite meals shared with Linda and Dad over the years were when Margie and Don would join us, and the conversation would inevitably lead to the kind of laughter that makes your face hurt!
Godspeed, Don. Thanks for being one of the truly great people I've crossed paths with in this world.
