Obituary of Vincent Joseph Gallant
Vincent Joseph Gallant
June 12, 1966 – October 28, 2023
Benoit’s Cove, NL
Heaven opened its gates for a special Angel today. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Vince announce his passing surrounded by his loving family at Western Long-Term Care on the Palliative Care Unit at the age of 57 years.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his brothers: Dan (Josephine), Howard, Pat (Gloria), Les (Mary), Gord (Paula), Charlie (Nadine); sisters: Matilda Ball, Genevieve Bennett, Rose George (Isaac), Mary Ellen Gilbert (Doug), Pauline Russell (Dave), Maggie Bennett (Jason); sister-in-law: Nora McCarthy. He will be missed dearly by his extended families, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Predeceased by his parents: Patrick and Adeline Gallant; brother: Walt; nephews: Elliott Gallant, Wesley Bennett, and Jimmy Russell.
Vince was the youngest of 14 children; he was a special gift from God for Adeline and Patrick to complete their family. Vince was the center of the family, and he was loved beyond measure by his siblings, his many nieces and nephews and their children. The family’s adoration for him was well known and extended beyond to the entire community; there are very few in the town who did not know who he was and smile at the mention of his name.
There was little Vince liked more than sitting for a rowdy game of cards with the family after supper, attending a family wedding (where he was without a doubt the best man), or playing games with the children. He loved to watch television; he never missed a Toronto Maple Leafs game, a good wrestling match or The Young and the Restless, always hoping to have yet another chance to get dressed in his suit to stand as Victor Newman’s best man. Vince loved music and, above all else, his favorite past time was to sit playing his guitar and singing with anyone who would join in. Vince leaves behind a massive ache in the hearts of those who had the good fortune of knowing and loving him but, fortunately, he also leaves behind enough love, laughter, and wonderful memories to comfort those hearts for a lifetime.
Visitations will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street, on Sunday, October 29th from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish on Monday, October 30th at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Lee Lainey officiating. Burial will take place following the funeral mass at the Old RC Cemetery in Benoit’s Cove.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Benoit’s Cove.
A special thank you to Vince’s niece and caregiver, Jillian Gallant-Batt for the compassionate care she provided to Vince for many years. The family would like to express a special thank you to Lawrence McCarthy, the Community health nurses, and the doctors and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit for the care and kindness shown to Vince and our family during this difficult time.
