Obituary of Austin Park (Card of Thanks)

Please share a memory of Austin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The family of the late Austin Park would like to extend a sincere thank you for all the support we have received and are continuing to receive, from relatives, friends, and neighbours on the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather.

We are so grateful for your expressions of sympathy in the form of cards, visits, phone calls, messages, food, flowers, donations to charities, visitation at palliative care unit, funeral home, funeral and visits to his family home.

We would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful nurses and physicians on the palliative care unit who not only took care of Austin, but also his family who sat with him.

Thank you to Rev. Terry Loder for a lovely funeral service, to Austin’s grandsons for being pallbearers and taking him on his last mile of the way, and to Jacob Payne for his beautiful music.

We will forever be grateful for the tremendous amount of love, compassion and support that has surrounded us in the past few weeks. We are sure that Austin would be so proud.

Richard Austin Park

June 18, 1931 – November 3, 2023

McIvers, NL

Austin, known to all as Aus, was welcomed into Heaven on November 3, 2023 by his granddaughter Joanne, his great granddaughter Janelle, his daughter-in-law Debby, his mother and father Christina and Richard Park, his parents-in-law Thomas and Ethel Parsons, his best buddy Eugene, as well as his many brothers and sisters and extended family.

Aus was born on June 18, 1931 in McIvers where he was raised and later made a full life for himself and his wife Susy. Together they raised their children Charlotte, Rich, Lonnie, Harvey and Barbara.

Aus loved the outdoors.  He spent his working years as a logger with several companies including Bowaters.  His greatest days in winter were spent hauling his winters wood with his pony. Summertime was his hay making and planting season.  He was no stranger to hard work and embraced it head on with a smile on his face.

He loved a game of cards, his rides to “Middle Arm” and fishing with his buddies.  But most of all he loved his family.

Aus will be greatly missed by his wife Susy of 71 years, his children Charlotte (Warwick), Rich (Harriet), Lonnie (Holly), Harvey, Barbara (Tony), his grandchildren Lori (Rich), Lorna (Fabian),Kimberley (Craig), Richard (Maureen), Jamie, Susy (Gary), and Adrian (Brittany), his great grandchildren Gabrielle (Jamie), Gavin, Garrett, Cassidy (Sam), Kennedy, Austin, Sophie, Jared, Jaxson, Monica, Lilly and Charlie, his sister Betty and brother-in-law Truman (Karen), as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

He will forever be the best husband, father and grandfather that any family could be blessed to have.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 5 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue, Corner Brook. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. from The Anglican Church of the Epiphany, McIvers with Rev. Terry Loder officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, McIvers. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
