Bernard Reginald Rumbolt

March 9, 1944 – November 20, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Reginald Rumbolt of St. John’s, formerly of Stephenville, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s on Monday November 20, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Sherry (Morris); daughter Kelly Madore (Ray), son Mitch (Leanne O’Leary); granddaughters Kate and Natalie Rumbolt and Shyla and Rayna Madore; his siblings Shirley Wight and Freeman (Kay Bradley); sisters-in-law Kay Ralph and Karen Cenowa; dear cousins Herb & Sherry Primmer and Loretta & Kevin Edison; nieces, nephews and other relatives, friends, and neighbours. Bernard was pre-deceased by his parents, Freeman and Rosetta (Dove); his siblings Lydia Baker (Art) and Stirling (Ada) as well as his brothers-in-law Ross Wight, Guy Ralph, and Klaus Cenowa.

Bernard leaves behind a large circle of long-time friends in Stephenville where he lived and worked in the pulp and paper industry. Many of these friendships were formed with others who also loved the outdoors or whom he met through his church community.  His dear friends included Calvin & Alice Boyd, Eldon & Alice Vey, Arch and Winne Peyton, Barry Noble, Stan Harnett, Larry Barnes, Ray Bennett, and Vince Janes.

A special thank you to the staff of Dominion Pharmacy (Stavanger Drive) who befriended Bernard over the years, as well as the Emergency Room staff of both St. Clare’s Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre who provided care for Bernard during visits in the final months of his life. Sincere gratitude is also extended to the Cardiac Care Team at the Health Sciences Centre, and in particular to Nurse Practitioner Peggy O’Brien-Connors and Nurse Leona Lundrigan for their professional care and kindness.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place between the hours of 2pm - 4pm and 7pm - 9pm on Sunday December 10th, 2023, at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake, NL. A memorial service will take place on Monday, December 11th at 11am at the Salvation Army Church, Deer Lake NL with interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery Wight’s Road.
