Derek Brown
July 7, 1945 – November 26, 2023
Derek Herbert Brown passed away peacefully at the age of 78 years on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Derek was born in Corner Brooke, NL on July 7, 1945. He had a wonderful childhood growing up on Pier Road with so many friends and family. Derek loved salmon fishing and rabbit catching with his dad. Having a good game of 120’s and a scattered cold beer was always a good time. He was a jokester, always pranking, teasing, and even buttering your nose on your birthday.
Derek started playing darts in Port-au-Port in his early 20’s and continued until this past summer in Regina, SK. Derek won many championships throughout the years and had amazing dart families.
In 1966, Derek started his career with Newfoundland Light and Power in Corner Brooke, then Port Union and later retired in Stephenville in 1997, at the age of 51. He was part of the softball and dart team for NL Power that travelled all over.
In 2016, Derek and Louise moved to Regina to be closer to their children and grandchildren, which was the best decision of their lives. They watched their grandchildren grow and be able to spend time with their own children as adults.
Derek was the most loving husband, father and papa and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise; his sons David (Tricia) and Troy; grandchildren Michael, Courtney, Lucas and Alyssa, who were his pride and joy.
Derek is survived by his sister Vonnie Hillyard; nieces Wanda Hillyard and Debbie (Wayne) Cook; great nephew Ryan (Rylee) Cook; and sisters-in-law Gloria Benoit, Betty (Hughie) Drover, and Vickie (Kevin) Costello; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents Herb and Angelina Brown; parents-in-law Arch and Alice Piercey; cousin Ed Langer, who was like a brother; in laws Wallace (Margaret) Piercey, Kevin (Helen) Piercey, Reg Piercey, Nettie (Harrison) Courage, Ruby (Ted) Felix, Shirley (Adrian) Schumph and Gordon Benoit.
As per Dereks wishes, cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held at 3162 Brock Bay, Regina, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to come and share stories, say a few prayers and have a drink and a bite to eat.
