Valerie Ruth O’Brien

March 15, 1941 – December 5, 2023

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Ruth O’Brien on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Western Long Term, Palliative Care at the age of 82 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Donna (Pete), Paul (Myra), Eddie (Tracey), Billy (Toni), Kim (Rodger), Sandra (Derek), Carol Ann, and Colleen (Rick); 

18 grandchildren: Christina, Nancy, Bubba (Danielle), John Paul (Kelly Marie), Jamie (Lori), Lynsey, Stephanie, Stacey, Sara, Jesse, Melissa (Jeff), Mark (Nikita), Matthew (Dominique), Reisha (Robyn), Evan (Lindsey), Aimee (Logan), Natasha (Jeffrey) and Domenic; 

13 great grandchildren; Kalen, Morgan, Zachary, Isabella, William, Jon, Alex, Adam, Avery, Thomas, Wesley, Lilly, and Chase;

Valerie will be remembered for her humorous antics, love for travel, beach combing, cross country skiing, and getting her workout in at the gym. Doing her best to feed her nine (9) children and the neighborhood friends who frequented the family home in Curling. 

surviving brother and sisters: Robert “Bob” (Rose) Morrison, Sandra Piercey, Roxie (Les) Dennis, and Colleen (Adrian) Morrison; special lifelong friends, Gertrude Daye and Maggie Neilson; Robbie-Lynn Wells, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

She is predeceased by her husband James "Jim" Patrick O’Brien, son James "Jamie" Christopher O’Brien, parents Christopher and Zena Morrison, brothers Dave and Wayne Morrison and very good friend Evelyn Hann.

Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Thursday, December 7th from the hours of 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Cremation to follow at Humber Valley Crematorium. The funeral service will take place from Sacred Heart Parish on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at 10:30AM with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Interment to follow at Mt Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Xavier House, Willow House, The Food bank or the charity of one’s choice.
