Obituary of Mary Rowsell (CARD OF THANKS)

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Re-united

She knew her life was through,

But wasn’t scared to die.

She closed her beautiful eyes,

Her final breath a sigh.

Our dad took her hand,

And whispered “Welcome Mary.”

It’s been a very long year,

We won’t be parted here.

We want to offer our sincere thanks for your expressions of sympathy and support during this difficult time. It has meant a great deal to us and we will always remember and appreciate your kindness.

Thank you for the cards, meals, messages, your visits at the funeral home, your attendance at her service. These gestures provided us with great comfort.

Sincere thanks to Rev John for his visits and his beautiful service. To Bill Andrews, Mindy Holloway, Laura Fillatre, you are all so special.

To mom’s sisters and their spouses, she had the best.

And her special friend Jean Murphy, you were an amazing friend.

So many thanks to Rick Crane your thoughtfulness will always be remembered.

Thank you all again, children

Judy, Derrick, Linda, Keith, Cathy & families

Mom passed away at the age of 88 on December 20, 2023 at the Palliative Care Unit with her family by her side. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Dad, who passed in October 2022.

Born on January 27, 1935 in Brakes Cove, Mom later moved to Corner Brook to work at Western Memorial Regional Hospital where she met Dad. They married soon after and had 5 children together. After the hospital, Mom kept busy sewing, knitting, teaching Sunday School and bowling. She eventually went back to work at the Popular Shoe Store where she spent many years until a fire destroyed the business. Mom then started to enjoy life knitting for charity, volunteering at the Legion and spending a lot of time at the curling rink. Mom was known to be full of fun, outgoing and left an impression on everyone she met.

Mom will be remembered by her devoted children Judy (Bob), Derrick (Bette), Linda, (Alvin), Keith, and Cathy (Bob). She was a doting nanny to her ten grandchildren Penni, Ryan, Marc, Staci, Jennifer, Janis, Kenisha, Samantha, Hannah and Carter, as well as great-grandmother to Kia, Kenzie, Ella, Max, Fynn and Frankie. She is also survived by Mildred (Stuart), Anne (Robert), Veronica, Ellen (Stan), Yvonne (Herman) and Jacquie (Glen); brothers-in-law George and Will; sister-in-law Ethel.

Mom was the oldest child of Winnifred and Dominic Park. She was predeceased by her siblings Henry, Donnel, Eugene, Rose, Jane and Grace.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses on 3C, Community Health Nurse- Danielle, OT-Ryan, Dr’s Peacock and Lafferty, Palliative Nurse-Michelle, Social Worker-Janice, and the nurses in Palliative Care-Christa, Julie, Jackie, Shauna, Rhonda and Sheila.

Granting her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue, Corner Brook on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00.
