You joined the Angels in Heaven

you are home amongst the stars

though I can’t see or hold you

I know you are never far.

The Family of Bob Wight would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to family, friends and everyone who came to grieve with us, support us, sent condolences, calls, cards, messages and meals to the family during this difficult time. It means the world to us; we will never forget and we deeply appreciate every act of kindness; it gave us great comfort .

To the staff at WMRH Emergency and WLTC Palliative Care Unit, you were amazing.  We could not have asked for better nurses and doctors to look after him. The care and compassion you showed was outstanding!!

To Major Jeff Howard of The Salvation Army, we extend a huge thank you  for your kindness and  beautiful service.

To Pastor Bill Cole, of the Pentecostal Church, thank you for everything you did, nothing went unnoticed and  your kindness will never be forgotten.

To the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 68, in Pasadena, thank you for  providing the accommodations and delicious meal after the service. We are beyond grateful.

Robert George Wight (Bob)

Pasadena, NL

October 22,1944 - December 20, 2023

It is with heavy hearts the family of the late Bob Wight announce his peaceful passing at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Long Term Care after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years Francine (nee Fitzpatrick); children, Paul (Carol Anne), Steve (Claudia), Jennifer (Eric) Hynes, and Wayne Humber; his precious grandchildren, Miranda (Andrew) Cater, Allison Wight (Joshua), Heather Wight (Ryan), Tristan Wight and Mady Wight; and his  furry buddy Jax; his brother, Gerald (Jessie) Wight; his sisters, Maxine (Dave) Carter,  Myra (Jim) Floros, Linda Wight and Bonnie Raymond; sisters-in-laws, Betty Wight , Sandra Wight, Lena Wight, Elizabeth Wight; and a large extended Fitzpatrick family.

Also left to mourn are his loving nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Bob was predeceased by his baby boy; parents, Harvey & Marigold (nee Ellsworth) Wight; brothers, Claude, Victor, Junior, Donald and Wayne; sister, Dinah Langdon; brothers-in-law, Ray Langdon and Jim Raymond; sister-in law, Tiff Wight; father and mother-in-law, William and Molly nee (Dicks) Fitzpatrick.

Bob was the 6th of 12 children born to Marigold and Harvey Wight. He was the last child to be born in Rocky Harbour before moving their family to Pasadena, where Bob lived his entire life.

He married the love of his life Francine on June 6, 1964 and together they raised their family.

Throughout his life, Bob worked various jobs and found his passion as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Lundrigans, McNamara and Marine Contractors. During these years, Bob worked throughout the province. There wasn’t a town you could drive to or pass by without Bob having a funny story about the job he worked on, his co-workers and the people he met! He loved the outdoors, moose hunting, rabbit catching or just being in the woods with friends for a good boil up, a few beer and a lot of laughs. He will always be known for his quick wit and sense of humour - he certainly had a strong presence in any room.

Bob and Francine built a cabin in Bonne Bay Pond in 1996, where they spent most every weekend with their friends; visiting cabin to cabin, going for skidoo or side-by-side rides, enjoying a pig roast, or just getting together and having supper and a good ‘ole game of ‘pass the ace’ or ‘scat’.  It was their favourite place to be with the best of friends! The past few years he equally enjoyed time at Junior’s shed with the bys’, especially on Fridays!

Visitation will be held at the Pasadena Pentecostal Church on Friday during the hours 2-4 & 7-9 pm, followed by the funeral service Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Major Jeff Howard officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Parkinsons Society www.parkinson.ca   or Heart and Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre Funeral Homes.
