George Gillingham
April 19, 1951 – December 27, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Rupert Gillingham announce his peaceful passing surrounded by his family at the age of 72 years on December 27, 2023 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
George was a kind and gentle man who was loved by all who met him. He spent his life with his brothers and Cyril on the waters of Newfoundland fishing. In the fall and winter he spent his time doing the things he loved, hunting, cutting wood and skidooing. In doing so he was able to pass on that knowledge to his children and grand children. His love of the outdoors will carry on for many years through his family. His influences will never be forgotten.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 49 years, Yvonne, daughter Tracy (Richard), son Rodney (Jody), grandchildren Nickolas, Alexa, Emma and Erin, brother Wilmore (Loretta), mother-in-law Mary, brothers-in-law Vernon (Joan) & Gary, special Cousin Gloria (David) and special friends Wade and Donna Bungay. Also left to mourn a large circle of family and friends.
George was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Sarah Gillingham, Sister Ruby, Brother Barry, Uncle Maxwell and Father-in-law Garland.
The family would like to thank the many Nurses and Doctors who have cared for him over the years at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. A special thank you to the staff on the Dialysis Unit, 3A, 3B and 3C as well as the amazing care over the years that was provided by Dr Fudge.
A funeral service will be held in Jackson's Arm at St. Bartholmew's Anglican Church on Saturday Dec 30, 2023 @ 2:00. Internment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association or The Kidney Foundation of Canda.
