My heart is so very sad to learn of Mr. Alexander’s passing, and while the world feels a little less bright at the moment because of it, I hope that all of the memories I know will be shared over the coming days (of the man, the myth, the legend!) will bring great comfort to the family he so fiercely loved.
I am a former English and Theatre Arts student of Mr. Alexander, and I so love the Dylan Thomas quote in his remembrance—it brought an instant smile to my face, in spite of the tears. His love for poetry and music, for literature and the people who wrote and inspired it, was infectious. And beyond sharing those passions with us, he had a gift of being able to connect with us as young people and to push us beyond our comfort zones in the best ways, and to inspire us to think about more than just ourselves, to be more than the hooligans and scamps we must have seemed some days!
I am fortunate to have crossed paths with Mr. Alexander a few times over the years, and each time, I was squeezed to within an inch of life by the most true and wonderful hug. Along with the brightest of smiles, he wore the biggest of hearts on his sleeve—he will be remembered with love and gratitude.
