Obituary of David Scaplen

It is with great sadness that the family of the late David James Scaplen announce his passing on January 12th, 2024, at the Labrador Health Centre, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL at the age of 78 years.

David was an active community member, was devoted to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish as well as being an engaged and proud 4^th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Scheffer Council #6378.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife: Anne Scaplen (nee: Pitre); children: Lisa Scaplen-Ratzlaff (Chuck) and Todd Scaplen (Andrea nee: Gamroth); grandchildren: Avery and Addison; very special furry friend his pup: Nicky-Lynn; brother: Gerald Scaplen (Cheryl) as well as a large circle of extended relatives and friends.

David was predeceased by his parents: Hubert and Nellie (nee: Courish) Scaplen and his sister: Catherine Skanes.

Visitations will take place on Sunday, January 21^st, 2024, at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm.

The funeral service will be held on  Monday, January 22^nd, 2024, 2:00 pm, at Our Lady Queen of Peace (OLQP) Catholic Church in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL with Father Boniface officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow in the annex of the OLQP Parish with light refreshments and a chance to share and exchange fond memories of David.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in memory of David.

The family would like to express thanks to the staff of the Labrador Health Centre with extra special thanks to Sherri, Alysson, Kyle and Kara for their compassion and empathy shown towards Dad during his time of need.
