Pearl Violet (Johnson) Hillier
September 24, 1940 – January 24, 2024
Passed away gently on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Western Health Palliative Care Unit, Corner Brook, NL.
Pearl was the last remaining child of Augustus & Elizabeth (Green) Johnson.
Born in Raleigh, NL on September 24th, 1940, raised in St. Anthony, NL, she was the youngest of 9 siblings. She met her husband George Hillier and they were married on November 28, 1963. This past November they celebrated their 60th anniversary.
Pearl was a woman of great organizational skill. In her early years she was a teacher in Raleigh, Old Perlican and Grand Falls - Windsor. She then returned home to St Anthony where she entered the financial field at Fishery Products and Grenfell Regional Health Services. She also assisted her husband at his business George's Furniture.
She was a woman of great spiritual faith which was evident up to the time of her passing when she was 'Longing' to go Home.
Pearl loved her family deeply, especially her children Paula, Charlene, Christopher, and Elaine (raised by Alfred & Ivy Johnson).
Left to mourn are her husband George, children Charlene (Jamie) Reid, Elaine (Todd) Hillier, Grandchildren Ericka, Kirstin, Georgia, Jonathon, Zachary, Nevaeh & Tristan. In-laws John, Shenk, Benjamin Kean, Maragret Johnson, Kay Kelly, Betty Simms, Alfreda Hillier, Adrian & Amy Hillier, Marie Hillier and a large circle of nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Predeceased by her children Paula & Christopher, parents Augustus and Elizabeth Johnson, siblings Christopher Green, Garland Green, Varrick Johnson, Minnie Johnson, Dorothy Shenk, Edward Johnson, Gladys Kean & Charles Johnson. In-laws Tobias & Hazel Hillier, Dorothy Kelly, Mack Simms, Lewis Hillier, Clayton & Carol Hillier & Woodrow Hillier.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will happen in St Anthony this summer.
The family would like to thank her niece Elizabeth Patey for her willingness to be a support for her Aunt Pearl & the family in her final days. They would also like the thank Dr Smallwood and the nursing staff at Western Health as well as Dr Lafferty and the nursing staff of the Western Health Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook. On all levels, the care provided to Pearl was exceptional in her final days. Her family will be forever grateful.
