Obituary of Garland Young

GARLAND YOUNG
August 13, 1949 – February 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garland Young on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Calder Health Care Center in Burgeo, NL at the age of 74.

Leaving to mourn his beloved wife of 48 years, Jessie (nee Baggs), sons Gary (Kim), Chris (Kayla), grandsons Gavin and Tyler. Sister Mary May, Brothers Hughie (Ellen), Reg (Madge), Keith (Olive) Brothers in law Jim (Mary), Stanley Lushman and Thomas Young;  Sisters in Law Maryann (Ward), Susanna (Bill), Theresa (Ralph), Irene (Stan),  Joan, Minnie, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by father James Young, mother Dora May Rose, stepfather Nathan Rose, mother in law Frances Baggs, father in law Hughie Baggs, brother Roy Young, brother in laws Lawrence Benoite, Clyde Baggs, Norman Baggs, Ray Lambert, sister in laws Ellen Lushman, Marion Jane Young.

Born in Dog Cove and then resettled in Grey River. Later he moved to Burgeo. Garland spent many years working on fishing trawlers out of Burgeo until he started his family. Garland was a loving husband, father, grandfather and was good friends to many. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 2:00 PM from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Burgeo with Reverend Elsie Rose officiating.
