John Milton Caines 

April 1st, 1922 - February 6th, 2024

Corner Brook, NL

 

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late John Milton Caines announce his passing on February 6th, 2024, at the age of 101 years. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. John was predeceased by his wife of 80 years, Alberta (Holly), parents: John Thomas Caines and Alice (Hatcher) Caines, children: Tommy, John and Joan, siblings: Bryant (Betty), Annie (Bill) and Edna (Jack), son-in-law: Calvin, daughters-in-law: Joslyn and Peggy, and great-grandson Jack Baldwin. 

 

John leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, sons: Randy (Ruth), Wayne (Karen), Jim (Laura), and Kevin (Brenda); daughters: Jocelyn (Kevin), Debbie (John), Dianne (Douglas) and Annette (Ralph); grandchildren: Norman, Lori, Dwayne, Jeffrey, Jason, Jana-Lynn, Craig, Nicole, Stephen, Danielle, Adam, Kirk, Wesley, Phillip, Darcy Lynn, Donnie, Christa and Nichola, as well as 23 great-grandchildren and a large circle of extended family and friends. 

 

John worked a long career as a heavy equipment operator at the Bowater Paper Mill. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Howley with family and friends. John had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. 

 

John was a loving and devoted father, and grandfather! He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on the ortho and 3B units at Western Memorial Regional Hospital for their kindness and care. The family would also like to express their appreciation to the special caregivers who provided comfort and care to him in the evenings. 

 

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1st from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. A service will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 at 2:00pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel. Internment to occur at a later date. 

 

In light of John’s love for animals, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the NL West SPCA (nlwestspca@gmail.com)
