Sincere condolences to David’s family, especially to his brother Eric and sister-in-law, Elsie who l have known for a long time.
I only met David once that l know of. I started teaching at the Corner Brook DVS in Sep 1975 and bought a house in November. I went to Great Harbour Deep on the Remembrance Day weekend and brought up my stuff to Jackson’s Arm. I believe David was into trucking and later brought my stuff to CB. Among my stuff were four wooden boxes of books l thought a lot of. They were heavy, measuring about 36 x 16 x 22 inches. I can still see this small, trim fellow putting a box over his shoulder and without much effort coming up the 15 steps to ‘the land’ and then seven more to the front door on Brookfield Ave. I recall he said something to indicate he didn’t think much of books! I have never forgotten how strong he must have been.
The boxes became my living room furniture for a month and a few years later l turned them into a big Barbie doll house for the girls. I still have them. They are now shelves to hold my genealogy binders, and many times when l see them, l remember David Combdon. I just heard a little while ago, that our daughter, Beverly was his nurse during some of his hospital stay. I was glad to hear that.
No more heavy lifting, David. Rest in the company of family and the peace of God. Your kindness was always appreciated and remembered.
Netta joins me in this expression of sympathy to all who loved him.
