Obituary of Ruby Mary Wheeler

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Ruby Mary Wheeler (Barker) announce her passing at the age of 58 years. Ruby slipped peacefully away at WMRH Palliative Care Unit after battling Huntington’s Disease for several years.

Ruby is predeceased by her parents Thomas & Anastasia Barker and siblings John (Jack) Barker, Theresa Fitzgerald, Patrick Barker and Charles Barker.

Left to cherish many incredible memories the father of her son and caregivers Rich Wheeler and partner Ida Connors, who provided unwavering support, her son Jordan (Tanya) and granddaughter Emmie Ruby who she would have adored, Hay River, NWT; siblings: Jim Barker (Marie), Greg Barker (Goretti), Ray Barker, Wish Barker (Diane), Rose Walsh (Ron), Rick Barker (Bernice) , her in-laws the Wheeler Family, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Ruby fought Huntington’s Disease for many years and was never one to complain. She loved her son Jordan very much and the mere mention of his name would cause her to light up. Her fight with this terrible and relentless disease is now over and she is finally able to rest in peace. Her memory will live on in those her knew her. Her strength is a trait we should all aspire to have. A special thank you to the staff of 2 South at Corner Brook Long Term Care who showed compassion and provided great care to Ruby over the years. Also to the wonderful staff at WMRH Palliative Care, Dr. Lafferty and nursing staff whose compassion showed no bounds.

Cremation at her request as taken place, visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 11:00 a.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Cemetery, Coachman's Cove, NL in the summer of 2024 where she will be laid to rest next to her parents as was her wish.
